1:25 Scale Model of the Wind Turbine Support Structure (WTSS)

The working scale model was installed May 2016, in Horgefjorden. Dimensioning, fabrication, assembly, installation and operations went as planned.

A successful measurement campaign with data obtained both with the rotor in operational and parked conditions. The pitch and roll data determined the movement of the structure along the x and y principal axis that fully described the movement of the structure/ generator in the horizontal plane. The correlation between the tower movement, wind speed and wave height were studied under the full range of operational conditions. Based on the good results received, the next step is to increase the generator size to simulate the dynamic and global responses including the gyroscopic effect from inclusion of the aerodynamics from a bigger rotor.

The wind turbine scale model is located just outside Stavanger at Tau
in Strand municipality.
